Picnic Lunches at Boschendal Wine Farm
Delight in an alfresco feast at one of the most picturesque wineries in the Cape Winelands
Nestled between the mighty Simonsberg and Drakenstein peaks, and surrounded by lush gardens and vineyards, Boschendal farm sits pretty, boasting some of the most spectacular views in the Cape Winelands. And now this acclaimed wine and food destination is offering two new alfresco dining experiences in the form of the Rhone Classic Picnic and the Werf Garden Picnic.
With a key focus on natural and seasonal products, the Boschendal chefs only use naturally grown produce from the estate’s gardens or locally sourced artisanal fare to create the delicious and wholesome picnic baskets. Picnics have to be pre-booked and guests can tuck in outside at one of the tables at La Rhone or under the trees on the grass at The Werf. Please note that the seasonal picnic menus may change depending on what the food garden is producing.
La Rhone Picnics
Relocating their classic Boschendal picnic to the Rhone Homestead lawns – the wine making and wine tasting hub of Boschendal – this picnic area is surrounded by the estate’s exhibition vineyards, the Rhone Homestead, the Cellar Door tasting venue as well as the winery. Guests are welcome to sit at the elegantly laid tables or on a picnic blanket under the trees.
Each Rhone Classic Picnic basket includes a selection of pâtés, freshly baked breads, an assortment of salads, the estate’s classic coronation chicken, a variety of cold meats, homemade wholegrain mustard, artisan chesses, as well as one of Boschendal’s delightful desserts. There is also a vegetarian and kiddies option available.
Werf Garden Picnics
Situated under the shady trees on the Pavilion Lawn (next to the main Werf area), the Werf picnics are perfect for families and friends to come together for a laid-back outdoor lunch. Chill out in the hammocks, on the bean bags or on a picnic blanket on the grass. Look forward to a relaxed, leisurely afternoon under the trees while the little ones play in the garden. Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic blankets and foldable chairs and tables.
The Werf Garden Picnic baskets include an array of fresh and wholesome farm produce and artisanal goods courtesy of the Boschendal bakers, butchers and chefs. Expect pâtés, fresh baguettes, seasonal salads, a selection of cold meats, homemade wholegrain mustard, artisan cheese, as well as one of Boschendal’s delightful desserts, of which we enjoyed the farm-made chocolate chip cookie ice-cream and farm-made marshmallows, which simply dissolved in my mouth upon entering, as well as homemade preserves and farm-made ice cream for dessert. There is a vegetarian and kiddies option available too.
