Tickle your taste buds and prepare your palate for a gourmet affair at the 2017 Riebeek Valley Olive Festival in the picturesque town of Riebeek Kasteel from Saturday, 6 to Sunday, 7 May 2017.

A mere hour’s drive (approximately 80km) from Cape Town, this otherwise sleepy hollow comes alive each year when friends and family come together to enjoy the region’s fruits and culture. The popular festival sees the celebration of the humble olive and plenty of yummy nosh to tickle foodie taste buds. Some of this year's participating establishments include Kloovenburg, the Riebeek Cellars, Het Vlock Casteel, Allesverloren, the Olive Boutique and Pulpit Rock.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2017 RIEBEEK VALLEY OLIVE FESTIVAL

OLIVE OIL & WINE TASTINGS: Established as Mzansi’s primary olive and olive oil producing locale, the Riebeek Valley boasts four of the country’s top olive producers and is also home to two Italian-trained olive oil graders who are devoted to ensuring only the highest quality of olive oil. Visitors are invited to move from estate to estate sampling this prime regional export as well as a number of the area’s top-notch wines.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Though the noble pitted morsel is the main attraction, the event has a lot more to boast about. Aside from honorary olive sampling sessions, festival-goers can also fill up on cheese tastings or pick and choose from the range of home-style jams, preserves, deli products, fresh produce and freshly baked breads on offer at the estates.

KIDDIES ACTIVITIES: This time around, the little ones are spoilt for choice. Parents can be assured kids will have a ball of a time, with plenty of activities ranging from jumping castles, face painting and the like.
