Join funnymen Chris Forrest, Warren Robertson and Deep Fried Man for a riotous ride of homegrown entertainment this September at the Fugard Theatre.
The hilarious trio, who first presented their now-acclaimed show, Funnier Than Them, to packed audiences at the 2014 National Arts Festival (NAF) in Grahamstown, are set to light up the intimate theatre from Tuesday, 2 September to Saturday, 6 September 2014.
Audiences can expect a load of knee-slapping thrills and spills that suitably showcase the various comic talents and styles of the three performers. Guests can expect a mishmash of audience interaction, improv and even animation. What’s more, the group have announced that they’ll be joined on stage by local old-school comic Gerry D Atric.
Deep Fried Man (Daniel Friedman) is an award-winning musical comedian hailing from Johannesburg. His smooth guitar strumming, satirical song writing and creative improv have made him a firm favourite on the local scene; he won the Newcomer Award at both the inaugural Comics Choice Awards and the 2010 Parkers Comedy Showdown, and he received an Ovation award at the 2011 NAF. Besides his boyish good looks and quirky bow tie and fedora get-up, he’s know as (half) the brains behind ‘An Idiot’s Guide to the SA Anthem’ and ‘that guy’ who played an acoustic version of Ice Ice Baby to Vanilla Ice himself. He’s appeared in some of SA’s hottest comedy events including The Heavyweight Comedy Jam, the Nando’s Jozi Comedy Fest and Blacks Only.
Chris Forrest launched his comedic career over a decade ago and has since risen to fame with his quick wit, dry sense of humour and intelligent comedy. He has performed at a number of renowned comedy venues and festivals including “It’s No Joke” presented by 46664, the Heavyweight Comedy Jam and Kingsize Comedy Show. His international gigs have included appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Lyric Theatre in London and the Round Table Comedy Show in Ghana. His talents have also stretched further afield – with Chris dabbling not only in stand-up and improv comedy but also in sitcoms, feature films, theatre, radio and even a comedy rap album.
International man of mystery Warren Robertson holds comedian, radio presenter and even columnist as relevant job titles. Warren first stepped onto the comedy scene in 2006 with an appearance at Melville Underground and soon became a regular headliner there. He has also performed at both the 2008 and 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and appeared on 2013 African Comedy Central to rave reviews. Currently he can be heard on Ballz Radio, where he hosts a show with none other than Chris Forrest.
