Rock fans; dust off your sleeveless leather jackets. In store for you, aKING is having an electric live performance at Die Boer Restaurant Theatre on Friday, 20 October, 2017 and Saturday, 21 October 2017.
If you haven’t heard the melodic sounds of this rock band, let me get you familiar. The band was formed in 2007, in the vibrant streets of Bellville, Cape Town. Their first studio album, Dutch Courage debuted in 2008, and since then the band has shared the stage with industry heavyweights like Panic! At the Disco and Oasis. aKing have toured extensively, playing at festivals such as Oppikoppi and the Coke Zero Fest.
The group was established in 2007 with the original members being Hunter Kennedy, Jaco Venter, Hennie Van Halen and Laudo Liebenberg. In 2010, vocalist and not a stranger to the band Andrew Davenport replaced Hunter Kennedy on the guitar.
aKING has collaborated with local musicians including Ghetto Vibrations, Khayelitsha United Mambazo and the Thokozani Brothers. What do all these artists have in common? They are Cape Town’s very own – talk about putting our city on the map! It is safe to say that these guys are one of South Africa’s biggest rock bands, their last album Morning After, was awarded the Best Rock Album at the 2015 SAMA’s.
Die Boer theatre has traditional acoustic curtains and a studio roof design, making all the live performances more amplified. This venue prides itself on the acoustics that makes live entertainment possible, and the diligent seating plan that makes sure all 130 seated guests will have an unobstructed view, to the theatre atmosphere that fills the air.
