Avoid the late afternoon traffic and kick off the weekend a day early with a first-rate happy hour special in the stylish, summery surroundings of the Hilton Cape Town City Centre’s charming Signal Hill Terrace. Every Thursday from 5pm to 8pm, the laidback outdoor hotel restaurant invites worker bees and CBD locals for 2-for-1 cocktails next to its sparkling swimming pool, and under open Mother City skies (valid until end of March 2013).

Situated on this luxury accommodation’s pool deck and overlooking the rump of Signal Hill, the alfresco eatery, with its beach-inspired wooden decking, large patio umbrellas and an assortment of comfy white couches and sunloungers, is, contrary to hotel dining norms, an informal, unassuming space and an ideal spot to wind down and drink up.

Best of all is their Thursday evening drinks deal that lets visitors stretch their after-work dop into a 2-for-1. Every week, four or five select fruity cocktails are available as part of the buy-one-get-one-free special, and the exact concoctions on offer change weekly (and seasonally) so guests will always be in for a pleasant surprise. While certain well-loved staples, like Caipirinhas, Cosmopolitans and Mojitos, feature regularly, the specials menu also often includes one or two of the terrace’s speciality mixes, such as the Elderflower Martini, a tasty, tropical combination of elderflower syrup, vodka, apple juice and sparkling wine.

Though not discounted, the indoor bar also serves a wide assortment of other refreshing drinks, such as cold bottled beers (Brewers & Union craft beer is an option too), fine Cape wines, whisky, gin, rum, spirits and liqueur. For the peckish, there are snack-focused starters, including a Mediterranean Platter, and for the downright hungry, there are tasty mains – think wraps, seafood, club sandwiches and gourmet burgers.  Not to mention, for those eager to try something exotic, there’s a selection of colourful Middle-Eastern shisha pipes available for use (expect tobacco flavours like mint, cherry and apple).

What’s more, after-work happy hour guests can also look forward to live music performed by local Idols finalist Jess Yallup from 6pm to 9pm. With a catchy folk-rock sound, a whole heap of talent and an easy-going attitude, this gifted singer-songwriter provides the perfect accompaniment to this great Thursday sundowner special.
