Get To Know Your Wine: Wednesdays are Winemakers Nights at Chicha!
Sample some fine wines and meet the makers behind your favourite tipple
There’s no cover charge for the wine tasting hosted by chef and co-owner Julian Gabriel every Wednesday from 6pm–8pm at Chicha! wine and tapas bar in Sea Point.
Besides tasting the finest wines from different local farms, the winemakers themselves come in to represent their wine farm and showcase what they have to offer.
“I mostly use the current winemakers from my wine list, but I am open to good small wine farms if their brand and wines suit Chicha! and its theme and style,” says Gabriel.
Chicha! is an intimate restaurant where you can grab a bite to eat and a glass of wine before heading out for the evening. This quaint, cosy wine and tapas bar adds a little extra flavour and atmosphere to the vibey, urban stretch on Regent Road in Sea Point.
WINE BY THE GLASS
The bar stocks around 60 different wines, of which more than 80% are offered per glass. The menu is specifically designed to balance the wine and their different complexities and staff are trained to recommend one or two wines that pair perfectly with each dish.
FROM DUCK TO FILLET
The food at Chicha! can be described as a fusion of worldly flavours, and the selection of tapas dishes are each unique.
The perfect winter dish is the confit duck leg cassoulet with dhania lamb sausage. According to Gabriel, the most unique dish is the Cape Malay-style chicken and prawn ravioli with almond and sultana butter. Other dishes that are a must-try are the Patagonian squid in chimichurri sauce and the IPA-marinated fillet.
Here’s our selection of cool wine tastings.
