Exotic Marigold Weekend of Indian Cooking in Green Point

Get a taste of the beloved film come to life as you go on an exotic culinary journey and learn to whip up Bombay-inspired cuisine, with a flavour of Indian lifestyle thrown into the mix.

If the charming flick The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel had you longing to see (and taste!) India, you can sate your cravings without even having to leave Cape Town. Head to Bombay to Cape Town’s very own Marigold House in Green Point for a weekend with Gautami Seksaria as your host and cooking instructor. At the Third Best Exotic Marigold Weekend she will teach you to cook sublimely spiced Bombay curry and roll a perfect roti. From Friday, 18 August to Sunday, 20 August 2017, you’ll be learning and cooking ‘Bombayia style’ with other guests, feasting on unique dishes, practising yoga, and even trying your hand at Bollywood-style dancing with Gautami!

Indian-born Gautami Seksaria has come a long way on her personal culinary journey. With a long time love for Bombay street cuisine, the little girl who couldn’t cook (much to her grandmother’s dismay) is now a connoisseur of Indian food, right here in the Mother City. The self-named ‘Spice Monkey’ behind the Bombay to Cape Town concept now presents Indian cooking classes right here in the Mother City, where she shares the secrets behind authentic Bombay dishes.

ITINERARY FOR THE 2017 THIRD BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD WEEKEND IN GREEN POINT

FRIDAY EVENING
Guests arrive at Marigold House at 6pm for a relaxing evening enjoying a delicious selection of authentic ‘Street Food Bombayia style’, complemented by quality South African wines. Ladies and gents then get a chance to dress up in saris or salwars and turbans and shake it to some Bollywood music with the hostess!

SATURDAY MORNING
You’ll begin your day with a traditional South Indian breakfast served on a banana leaf; not only is this meal delectable, it’s also healthy!

SATURDAY MID-AFTERNOON
Enjoy a multi-course lunch with delicacies from all over India that will have your mouth watering and your belly full and happy.

SATURDAY EVENING
It’s cooking time! Learn easy but delicious authentic Indian recipes you’ll be making  at home long after the weekend is over. All the guests will prepare a wonderful meal together with Gautami. After an evening of chopping, peeling, frying and more, you’ll be rewarded with a feast of dishes. Nothing tastes better than food you have taken the care to make yourself!

SUNDAY MORNING
After all the feasting, guests will start the day with a yoga, meditation and Nidra (induced sleep) session led by a local yoga guru to get the blood flowing and a relaxed state of mind going. Afterwards, breakfast will be served. This time it’s a North Indian one. Just before you head home again, Gautami will take you to her local Indian spice shop and get you sorted with all the flavours you’ll need to keep cooking Indian food in your own kitchen.
