See the magic of the breathtaking Huangshan Mountain through the art of photography at this exhibition currently being held at the Chavonnes Battery Museum at the V&A Waterfront until 8 September 2018.
The exhibition is made up of 60photos and a digital slideshow of this UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Site that was formed around 100 million years ago. The site has inspired poets, writers, painters and photographers from all over China and internationally, as well as the fictional world in the film Avatar.
Huangshan Mountain was named in honour of Huang Di, the Yellow Emperor, who, as legend has it, ascended to heaven from the peak of this magnificent mountain.
It’s famous for its granite rock, cloud formations and cable car (just like Table Mountain) and the exhibition showcases striking photographs of the “Five Wonders”:
Tourists can use cable cars and trams, walk along footpaths, or climb some of the more than 60 000 stone steps carved into the mountain. Hotels, guesthouses and restaurants are stocked by porters who carry resources up the mountain on foot, hanging their cargo from long poles balanced over their shoulders or backs.
