Astrid’s journey to success in the beauty industry began at the age of 21. Being surrounded by strong women her entire life, Astrid decided to name the cosmetics line after all the women who were part of her journey, and inspired her to follow her dream: Ajeless, derived from: AJ (Astrid Jonkers), E (Esme, Astrid’s second name), Le (Lehane, Astrid's mother’s name), ES (Esme which is Astrid’s grandma's first name) and S - “because it just makes sense”, says Astrid with a playful chuckle.

Not only did Astrid empower herself and honour the women who inspired her, but her objective through the brand of Ajeless Africa is to make a difference in the lives of all African women by offering a product that caters to skin tones and complexions that are specific to women on the African continent.  

The Ajeless Africa make-up line is so much more than the Foxy and Natural shades, as Astrid aims to help women of colour in their journey to attain aesthetic goals set for and by themselves, as opposed to the mainstream depiction of what beauty should be. “I want to cater for women who have not been catered for,” says Astrid with conviction. “I am a woman of colour, so if I say I’m going to cater for darker skins, believe that I’m going to cater for darker skins”.
