Two local breweries, eight beers and four courses to pair them with

Cape Town has a huge craft beer community and is home to some sensational craft breweries. Radisson Blu at the Waterfront wants to show off what Cape Town’s got to offer. On Saturday, 28 October 2017, Jack Black Brewing Co and Darling Brew will show off their best brews at the beach-front hotel.

Guests will be treated to eight beer tastings (four from each brewery) which will be expertly paired with delicious food samples selected by the Executive Chef. The Jack Black Brewing Co., based in Diep River, are bringing out the big guns. They will be presenting their Atlantic Weise, a rich and fruity beer that refreshes the palate, and the Cape Pale Ale which has granadilla and citrus flavours which make it the perfect ‘thirst quencher’. Their Skeleton Coast IPA is heavy on the hops and malt (it comes from an old recipe that loaded the beer with additives to make sure it didn’t spoil on the journey around the Skeleton Coast), and their Brewers Lager is a full-bodied, refreshingly sweet malt lager.

Darling Brew will showcase their Rogue Pony (pale ale), an easy drinking beer with flavours of straw and honey, the Thunder Bird (Indian pale ale) which is a well defined citrus lager which lingers in the mouth, making it great for lighter food dishes. Their Bone Crusher (wit beer) is spicy and refreshing while being slightly bitter and citrusy at the same time, lastly the Gypsy Mask (brown ale) is a spicy and assertive beer, one that certainly can’t be paired with too complex a dish.

These local beers will be paired with a selection of tasty morsels, selected by the chefs at Radisson Blu because they work so well with the beer selection. You’ll be able to experience true culinary harmony with matured cheddar, crisp lavash, semi-dried tomato and cheese mouse, three cheese quiche, caramelized onions, a parmesan crisp and more. Each of the beers will be presented to guests with the corresponding gourmet snack, so you will learn first hand which flavours work with which beers and how to recreate the pairings at home.

The music for the evening is also sorted. Radisson Blu have acquired the services of some local and up-and-coming talent to serenade you. Amy Tjasink has appeared at the Radisson Blu many times and is a crowd favourite. Kai Connor is the epitome of acoustic music; this surfer dude has some impressive string strumming skills and a soulful voice. Nothing goes better with beer and a great view than live music.

The cost of this event is priced at R300/p, and bookings can be made with the organisers directly. Kids are more than welcome to attend at R150 a child, there will be face painting, movies and playstation games to entertain them as well as a kids buffet including mini burgers and ice cream.
