Sunday Lunch & Free Live Jazz at Kloof Street House in Cape Town
While away the last few hours of the weekend with some smooth tunes and good grub at this hidden gem
“To jazz, or not to jazz, there is no question!” Louis Armstrong
Well, it’s probably best to listen to one of the most influential musicians of our time and find a place “to jazz”. Our recommendation? The hidden gem that is Kloof Street House, which can be found in the Mother City’s trendy Gardens area.
Every Sunday afternoon, between 1pm and 3pm, the gorgeous eatery hosts a FREE live jazz performance on its veranda-turned-stage.
This means that you and your mates or family can plonk yourselves in Kloof Street House’s partially covered magical little garden - think mosaic-style wooden and wrought iron tables, wicker chairs and a Grecian –style fountain - and enjoy some groovy and melodic tunes.
Of course, what would a Sunday be without a hearty lunch? Kloof Street House boasts a bistro-style menu, and the main meal options include slow roasted lamb shoulder with flatbread, roasted aubergine, tahini and sumac; ostrich fillet, butternut puree, gorgonzola frittata, balsamic onion and waldorf salad; and grilled fillet of salmon with béarnaise sauce and tenderstem broccoli.
Alternatively, try something from the eatery's lunch menu, which includes the chimmichurri rib eye on toasted ciabatta, with crispy onion rings and pico de gallo, as well as the roasted beetroot and goat's cheese with pesto and balsamic glaze flatbread.
It’s also worth mentioning that Kloof Street House’s eclectic interior is worth exploring as well. The inviting space is undoubtedly a feast for the eyes and is chock-full of interesting and eccentric details - think Tretchikoff prints, elaborate chandeliers, carnival masks, images of Victorian animal/human hybrids, historical pictures of Cape Town and clusters of mirrors. It’s all so fantastically dramatic and ornate without being pretentious.
In short, it’s a welcome way to end the weekend.
