Klein Karoo Klassique in Oudtshoorn
The Little Karoo goes big with a weekend-long fiesta of classical music, food and art
Indulge in a good helping of classical music, art, food and wine at the annual Klein Karoo Klassique, which takes place in the ‘ostrich town’ of Oudtshoorn from Friday, 11 to Sunday, 13 August 2017. The ninth Klein Karoo Klassique sees a bigger music programme than ever, with eight recitals covering the whole classical music spectrum. All will be performed by renowned local classical musicians and vocalists.
The festival includes intimate recitals by duos, as well as choral and orchestral concerts, and this year’s event boasts appearances from several celebrated national artists. Along with these, a pick of the best of South Africa’s promising young classical talent will perform together in the AKTV Concert that brings the weekend to a spectacular end.
With its beautiful Swartberg Mountains and evergreen fynbos-fragrant landscape, the wintry Karoo is the ideal location for this festival; the uncomplicated beauty of the area complements the simple pleasure that comes from listening to superb music. The Klassique is not just about the music though, it also offers a feast for the senses, including beautiful fine art for the eyes and delicious delights for the tongue. So, prepare for a wonderful weekend of culture in the colourful Klein Karoo.
