Kamers Vol Geskenke

Stroll through stalls brimming with handcrafted products at a scenic Stellenbosch winery

The much-anticipated Kamers Vol Geskenke (rooms filled with gifts), or simply Kamers, craft market springs to life at the Webersburg Estate in Stellenbosch for its annual six-day creative showcase from Tuesday, 5 to Sunday, 10 November 2013.

This year, as in each year of the decade past, the team sifted through over 600 vendor applicants and their products – no doubt a tough job – to bring you the best lovingly handcrafted, innovative goods the country and its creatives have to offer.

Now, in its 11th year, this massive pop-up retail event is celebrating transformation and, more specifically, the transformative power of creativity. And when it comes down to it, there’s simply no better place to do a spot of early Christmas shopping, to find something special for that special someone or to spruce up your home with something one of a kind.

What to expect at the 2013 Kamers Vol Geskenke Craft Market

Crafted, Curated Goods: A real-life Pinterest board, this annual market boasts a range of timeless, original designs picked by the seasoned curators for show. Featuring high-end craft merchandise that is unique and inspired and that boasts character in its slight imperfections, the bazaar celebrates creativity and innovation as well as provides crafters with a platform to launch their new ranges. More than 50 percent of this year’s suppliers are new, and in addition to these folks, the show will feature 10 young entrepreneurs as part of new initiative that hopes to provide exposure for budding businessmen and women. With everything from gorgeous designer clothes and accessories to home décor and wedding ideas, the shopper’s paradise truly gives visitors a chance to come face to face with fresh and uniquely South African wares, like jewellery, ceramicsgourmet food products, garden gear and much, much more.

Show Highlight & Live Music:  Live music is billed to liven up the atmosphere every day around lunch time, and on Friday, 8 November local bands treat visitors to both a full day of inspiration and a downright jol in the evening. Get to the showground early, stock up on goodies and stick around for the toe-tapping tunes of Dave Ferguson, Sannie Fox and The Ride (show closes at 8pm on Friday).

Food & Wine: Each year, the crafty fiesta offers patrons the finest deli products and yummy treats to snack on, and this year is no exception. Aside from the usual suspects, visitors can get some quality nosh at the Good Life food truck, sip on delicious teas from Lady Bonin’s  travelling tea parlour or book a spot at the pop-up restaurant The Flying Boar (a first at Kamers); booking details for a seat at the impromptu eatery will be released via the Kamers Facebook page. What’s more, if you’ve got a hankering for some craft beer, Darling Brew will be on site, and vino lovers can sip and swirl Webersburg’s fine vintages (we’re told their bubbly is just heavenly!).

Wedding & Party Inspiration: Wedding season is upon us, and if you’re planning a big do, then this event is just for you. As fate would have it, the craft bazaar is hosted at a gorgeous wedding venue with all the trimmings, so DIY brides can soak up inspiration, buy that something blue or stock up on unique party favours while sussing out the space.

About the Kamers Vol Geskenke Craft Market

Kamers Vol Geskenke was born from humble beginnings in 2003 when a group of ladies – and close friends to boot – decided to put their dreams in motion. They yearned to provide creatives with the opportunity to network, and they envisioned developing a platform on which artists, chefs, designers and more could showcase their work in a safe and productive space.
