Gear up and get ready for an artistry experience like no other. Does the name Gary van Wyk ring a bell? It sure should, but if not you’ll get familiar with it soon. The Cape Town-based photographer is showcasing his exhibition titled Transparent at The Postbox in Woodstock from Thursday, 8 December to Thursday, 15 December 2016.
Get ready to feast your eyes on a series of double exposure photographs taken on colour film from around Cape Town, courtesy of Gary van Wyk. “To me, the images portray the multi-layered details of the city. The process of taking double exposure photographs enables me to explore these layers and to abandon technique for intuition by following my instinct and leaving the final image up to pure chance,” he explains.
Van Wyk is an extraordinary photographer with a prolific body of work ranging from portraiture to documentary style photography; one can just see and feel the versatility in his work. Through his remarkable ability to capture the essence of a moment in his images, viewers are able to experience the essence of life. This skill is only made possible through his deep passion for his craft.
Experience imagery that is described as lucid, honest and visible through the lens of renowned photographer Gary van Wyk this December.
