Feed Your Need for Speed at MSA Drags at Killarney

Honda, VW, Opel and Renault too, these are some of the cars to expect the MSA Drags at Killarney

Calling all car lovers! Get down to Killarney International Raceway on Saturday, 20 January for the MSA Drags. This popular car spectacle is set to get your blood pumping as you’ll see the Honda V-Tecs taking on the VW GTis or the Opel Astra OPC taking on the Renault Clio Sport – whatever car you are into, you’ll see it at the MSA Drags.

WHAT IS DRAG RACING?

Drag racing is a race between two opponents, each in a car of their choice (cars are either matched on being standard, modified or exactly the same in class). The race format takes place from a standing start and is covered over a measured distance, with the most popular being the quarter mile.

In order to ensure the race is fair a device known as a ‘Christmas Tree’ is used to measure the race; it consists of two light beams which are connected to photocells on the racing track and are wired to the tree and the cross at the start line. This ensures that the vehicles are positioned evenly. The beams are also connected to electronic timers which stop once a vehicle has reached the finish line. These timers activate once a driver starts the race. To ensure the race is fair, each vehicle is measured independently.
