Enjoy a Live Tribute to The Beatles by Mike McCully & The Harmonix Band

Sounds of Sunday presents a day of live music that pays homage to the most iconic band of the sixties

Mike McCullagh & The Harmonix, a band from right here in the Mother City, are set to show off their musical finesse at the clubhouse at Killarney International Raceway on Sunday, 27 August 2017 for a laidback afternoon concert. The song line-up is pure Beatles hits, which the band will prove to do justice with their own renditions of beloved hits like ‘Hey Jude’, ‘Olbadi, Olbada’, ‘Back in the USSR’, and ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ to name a few! So head down to the open air venue in Milnerton with stunning views of Table Mountain just a little way in the distance, and end off the weekend with beautiful live song and more than a touch of nostalgia.

It isn’t easy to play covers that interpret hit songs by influential international bands, particularly one as legendary as The Beatles, in a way that audiences enjoy. Mike & The Harmonix manage to do this and recreate signature band sounds with flair. Every member can sing, really well, and the band is versatile in the genres they can play, including (mainly) country, pop, folk and rock. Their way of harmonising and instrumental skills give their sound a particularly folksy feel. Mike plays the drums as well as adding in his vocals, while Christopher Murray is the lead vocalist who also strums on guitar. Andy Murray (not the British tennis player but the local muso) rocks out on guitar, and together with keyboardist Gordon Mackay the two play and vocalise in a sound similar to those of Lennon and McCartney harmonising. Singer Vicky Jane has wowed audiences with her performances of hits like ‘Golden Slumbers’ and ‘Something’, and will be joining the band for the day’s show. Underlying it all will be the cool pulse of Neil Peyton’s bass. These guys will have you moving to the beat in no time, whilst tickling your funny bone with humourous Beatles facts in between.

Killarney Raceway is home to the Western Province Motor Club clubhouse, also known as the Trackside Pub & Grill, a well-ventilated two storey building. Here, you can find beverages to quench your thirst, as well as delicious pub meals. The balcony on the second storey is usually the place from which spectators watch the regular motor races that happen at this spot. However, during this concert it provides a perfect outdoor place to relax with a drink from the Trackside bar in between jumping along to Beatles tunes. Even if you’re unfamiliar with the band and just love music, it’s worth going for the brilliant vocals, music and hilarious banter from the band!

One of the best things about listening to songs by The Beatles is also that everyone knows them and can sing along! Belt out classic lyrics and dance the day away as slightly older audience members get carried back to the Swinging Sixties, the era of rock.
