Dinner and Jazz Special at Marianne Wine Estate
Wind down with some great food and free live music every Friday evening
What better way to wind down at the end of the week than with a deliciously hearty meal accompanied by some smooth jazz tunes played live? It doesn’t hurt either that, if you head just 25 minutes out of Cape Town, to Floréal Brasserie at Marianne Wine Estate, you can enjoy it in a wonderfully peaceful spot in the country.
Every Friday evening throughout summer Chef Ian Lilley and his team at Floréal offers guests a full a la carte menu while you sit back, relax and enjoy some soothing melodies. For starters think smoked snoek rillettes served with balsamic infused strawberries or ostrich carpaccio served with kohlrabi and apple salad with toasted pine nuts, and for mains expect sizzling steaks prepared to perfection or gourmet burgers.
Floréal is prettily positioned alongside a large natural pond in the vineyards of Marianne Wine Estate. On warm evenings, you can breathe in the fresh country air and soak up the cool darkness on the veranda. If it’s chilly, Ian will light the fire in the restaurant’s large fireplace to warm things up.
The objective at Floréal is to offer good value for money and also great-tasting food. Using carefully selected local ingredients in season, Ian’s dishes are characterised by a modern European style of cooking, which he’s perfected after many years of experience in some of London’s most prestigious kitchens. It’s unpretentious, flavourful food, which is perfect with the bold and beautifully balanced wines produced by Marianne Wine Estate – and even more excellent with a side serving of melodic live jazz.
Other delectable items on the starter menu include grilled goat’s cheese rolled in dried Kalamata olives with rocket salad and crispy soda bread, or garlic marinated prawn candyfloss served with mango and chilli salsa and cumin spiced mayonnaise, to name just a few delicacies. From the mains menu, guests can select the open Springbok lasagne with a rich tomato sauce served with a rocket and parmesan salad, as well as homemade gnocchi that’s pan fried and served with wild mushrooms, smoked aubergine and creamy gorgonzola, and topped with toasted pine nuts and a balsamic syrup.
End the week off in true Marianne style and make sure to accompany the above with a glass (or two) of estate’s finest and, of course, as much jazz as you like. After all, if it’s Friday, it must be Floréal.
