Cape Town’s Most Mysterious Tourist Attraction: HintHunt
Be sure to add this exhilarating live group escape game challenge to your Mother City bucket list
Picture this; you’re stuck in an unfamiliar room. Lights all around you are flashing red and warning signals are harrowing away overhead. A clock is methodically ticking down and you don’t want it to reach zero, because zero means you lose.
One of the most mind-bending, interactive games to hit Cape Town is sure to not only excite and exhilarate you, but challenge you too and earn its spot on your bucket-list. We’re talking about HintHunt, the code cracking, riddle solving and brain teasing live escape game that will work your mental muscles. This brilliant game can be enjoyed by you, and a team of between three and six players, at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock.
What is it?
Here’s how it works: a team of players are locked inside a room with one objective; figure out the great mystery to free yourselves before time runs out. With 60 minutes on the clock; teams must work together. A number of cryptic clues and hints (hence the name) are strategically placed within the room to help you in your quest for victory and freedom. With one of four complex games to choose from, groups of families, friends or co-workers will be treated to a pulse-racing hour of hair-raising, head-scratching fun.
The out-of-this-word challenge, which is wrapped in secrecy (our lips are sealed!), originated in England in 2012 and by 2013 was already ranked on Tripadvisor.com as London’s number one attraction. Cape Town - a true frontrunner in all things hip and happening - became the second global city to offer HintHunt to discerning players, in 2013. By 2014 Tripadvisor.com dubbed the Mother City’s branch as the city’s leading attraction.
The Hint Hunt Rooms
Based at the trendy Woodstock hotspot (The Old Biscuit Mill is another top tourist attraction), HintHunt features six rooms; two detective-themed John Monroe Offices, two Japanese-inspired Zen rooms and its newest members – naturally Cape Town was again the first city to import the new room from the UK headquarters – two Submarine rooms, which were designed to replicate the nautical vehicle. Showcasing the three couplings of rooms side by side, different groups can enter at the same time and compete to see who makes it out first (if they even make it out at all!) What’s more, the two identical Submarine rooms comprise two different missions – Deep Down and Torpedo – that can be played individually, which is great news for returning players who wish to have another crack at the defeating the underwater challenge.
From Game Space to Conference Space
Boasting a large (capacity 100 people) modern conference space, business lounge and bar area – including free Wi-fi and HD projector and screen – HintHunt offers businesses tailor-made packages to suit any office’s needs and budget. This is a welcomed breath of fresh air to end of year office parties and team building excursions. The beautiful multifunctional space can also be hired out for other events and special occasions such as birthday parties and bat or bar mitzvahs.
Fast paced and packed with excitement, thrills and guaranteed to give you chills; the indoor activity – which is the perfect substitute to being outside on a windy or rainy Cape Town day – is bound to leave players on a high that will likely last long after the game has ended. Plus, being one of only eight HintHunt’s in the world, you do not want to miss a chance to check this fantastic adventure off your bucket list (although once you experience a game of HintHunt it’s hard to not go back as often as you can).
So, grab a couple of competitive friends or colleagues and head down to HintHunt for a healthy dose of excitement and fun.
