A Charity High Tea at the Devon Valley Hotel

The Graceland Project would really benefit from your support!

For those of you that are looking for a little sophistication and relaxation, then look no further than the annual Graceland Tea at the Devon Valley Hotel on Friday, 8 September 2017. The event kicks off at 10am for two luxurious hours of tea, treats and the tales of one of SA’s most successful female entrepreneurs, Melissa van Hoogstraten of Melissa’s Food Shop, and it’s all for the benefit of the Graceland charity project.

The tea will feature delicious (and stunningly presented) nibbles, along with tea and coffee of all variations. The sandwiches will be dainty and the pastries will be petite and flawless! Look forward to maximum flavour in adorably small packages, and a stunning day of socialising and networking to go with it!

Guest speaker Melissa, along with her husband Mark, opened the first Melissa’s Food Shop on Kloof Street in 1996, and their business has gone from strength-to-strength ever since. Over the next two decades the Melissa’s brand spread throughout the greater city and even opened a few stores in other SA provinces. Van Hoogstraten is passionate about early childhood development and the importance of nurturing children's talent so that they can be successful later in life. Listen to the wise words of this truly inspirational female entrepreneur!

Graceland is a project of the Thembalitsha Foundation, which  focuses on early childhood education in the Devon Valley community in Stellenbosch. The foundation runs Graceland Preschool, which offers education to at-risk young children whose parents work during the day. In 2016, they had 60 learners, ranging in age from two to five years, enrolled at the school. Their holistic approach to education focuses on the social, spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional development and wellbeing of their young charges. Graceland has qualified teachers that impart their wisdom and knowledge in a safe learning environment, which includes warm and dry classrooms. The learners also receive one meal a day, along with various snacks to keep their little tummies full and their brains working!

This year Graceland is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary, so they’ve chosen an appropriate theme for the event –  ‘A touch of the 20s, where anything goes’! Ever seen the famous film ‘The Great Gatsby’? Well, take your inspiration from Daisy Buchanan because her character was the epitome of  style in America during the roaring twenties... think feather boas, fringed dresses, sparkly headbands worn of the forehead, shiny kitten heels and crisp suits. It’s a great opportunity to dress up and have fun, will learning from a foremost local entrepreneur and supporting a good cause.
